Medical, Nursing/Midwifery, Pre-Medical, and Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy students are all eligible to apply and participate in the internship program.

Intern Roles & Responsibilities

As an intern for this program, your main tasks would be:

  • Interns will assist the local team in daily duties at the clinic.
  • Observe the local medical staff to understand the kind of problems that are prevalent in the Tanzanian health care scenario.
  • Medical students assist the local doctors and staff in doing basic tasks such as checking weight and temperature of the patients, cleaning wounds and also doing administrative tasks in the placement.

Intern Work Schedule

A medical intern typically works 5-6 days a week, with weekends off. This means that the intern will usually have two days off to rest and relax away from the medical environment. The internship location is usually close to accommodation, making it easier for the intern to access the workplace. The exact working hours will be discussed at the start of the program, so that both the intern and the organisation know what to expect. Working hours may be longer than usual depending on the requirements of the internship.
