Highlights

  • Help to provide food, shelter, and medical treatment for injured animals. Assist veterinarians in giving animals necessary check-ups and administering medication as needed. Clean and maintain the facilities in which the injured animals are being cared for

These programs may involve activities such as habitat restoration, species monitoring, data collection, and educational outreach. Our Vlunteer program has a start date on 01 and 15 of each month. You should arrange your flights to arrive into and depart from Iringa-Nduli Airport for the dates specified in your booking confirmation.

You will receive a comprehensive orientation with one of the project managers on arrival. This will cover the following areas:

  • An introduction to Tanzanian culture and values, food and practices.
  • Your health and safety whilst in Tanzania.
  • Transport and money in Tanzania.
  • Workplace ethics and code of conduct.
  • A familiarisation tour of Iringa town and introduction to its surrounding areas.
  • An introduction to the project areas.
  • An introduction to the sports coaching activities, aims and methods.
  • Places to visit in your free time and at weekends.

There are a couple of nice places in and around Iringa that you can relax at during the weekend. Iringa is also well located for safaris to the Ruaha National Park, Mikumi, and Selous. The programt managers will be happy to help organize excursions if you are interested during your stay.

The Animal care programt is a unique and exciting chance for volunteers to help treat a range of farm and domestic animals, delivering animal care and experiencing veterinary care in a developing country. As an Animal Welfare volunteer you’ll be placed with a local veterinarian, treating farm animals such as:

  • Chickens
  • Horses
  • Cows
  • Pigs
  • Other livestock
  • Domestic animals such as dogs and cats

This is a mobile project where you’ll travel with local vets to farms and homes around Arusha, learning about common diseases and ailments in animals in Tanzania.

A Program staff member will meet you at the airport and will transfer you to the volunteer house, which is approximately 30-45 minutes drive from the airport. You will be transferred back to the airport at the end of your volunteer project. Please arrange your flights for the dates specified in your booking confirmation.

Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or friend who is over 18 to participate in this program

Volunteers aged 16-18 are required to provide IVHQ with parental consent in order to participate on the program independently, and may be asked to provide additional documentation to the local team

All volunteers are required to provide a criminal background check to IVHQ prior to departure, or if aged under 18 need to provide two character reference letters instead

Minimum age is 18. There is no maximum age, as long as you are fit and healthy enough to participate in project activities.
